Sliding window disassembly?

Beitrag von jack »

Hello friends,
I would like to clean the space that is closed between sliding window and static window. For this reason I need to remove sliding window. it seems to me that two caps and lice should be removed first.
I do not want to make an experiment. Could somebody with experience explain me how to do this? Is there a risk the window to be broken?
Greeting.

Hi Jack,

please post a (small, or thumbnail-) picture of your window, so i can see what type it is. After that i think i can help you.

Hi Jack,

you can remove the outer vertikal alu-profile, which is in the front of the sliding part of the window. But be carefull! Broken glass may be the result.

The profile you can remove is pressed on the edge of the glass. To remove it it is recommended to use a piece of hardwood, eg. oak, or a thick piece of plywood, eg. beech, or birch silkscreen .... and a hammer!

How to proceed: put the piece of wood direct to the edge of the alu-profile and then with light hammer blows (tangent to the glass, never on the glass!) and sliding the wood along the edge the profile will get loose.

After that you can clean the space and the brush seal. If the one in the alu-profile is a little short, you can replace it, or put an extra piece in the channel. The brush seal is still in production today, but not easy to find. Was also used on windows from VW T3 Camper.

If you are in doubt....don't try the method! For all other disassemblies the window has to be removed from the car!

No warranty - you are working on your own risk ;-)

Regards

Peter
